Resources are available to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one financial counseling to assist you and your family with financial readiness. Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement. Financial readiness educational opportunities range from basic planning to long-term investing. Check out the information below to see what’s available at your installation.
The Fleet and Family Support Center has an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) to provide counseling, education, referrals, and training in personal financial management. The AFC also provides information such as car buying, the financial aspects of home buying, credit card management and much more. The AFC is available for financial counseling, command referrals and command briefs. In addition, regularly scheduled workshops are offered, providing information about budgeting, credit, insurance, and savings and investments.
Trained personnel at each individual command are also available to assist with personal financial management. The Command Financial Specialist (CFS) emphasizes personal financial responsibility and accountability by providing basic principles and practices of sound money management, counseling tools and referral services. The CFS at each command is trained to assist members and their families. Financial guidance is offered to those experiencing money management difficulties or for those who would like to have better control of their finances. The AFC at FFSC or your CFS can work with you to prepare a personalized budget and spending plan with a debt management plan free of charge.
Advanced pay is available to service members with approval from their chain of command or command liaison via their respective Transaction Support Center. Repayment will be automatically withdrawn from the service member’s pay monthly. Be reminded this will reduce monthly income, in some cases, drastically. Please meet with a command financial specialist or Fleet and Family Support Center accredited financial counselor, before taking advanced pay, to determine if this step is financially responsible.
