You may be expecting your first baby or busy with a toddler. That probably means you have your hands full, and may have questions. Thankfully, help is at hand.
The New Parent Support Program is a free service that helps military parents, including expectant parents, transition successfully into parenthood and provide a nurturing environment for their children. Services vary, but may include home visits, parenting classes, playgroups or prenatal classes.
The New Parent Support Program is a team made up of nurses, social workers and home visitation specialists who offer support and guidance by helping parents:

New Parent Support Program staff are child development professionals, including registered nurses, clinical social workers, and para-professionals trained in the delivery and practice of established home visiting models. The program is supervised and monitored at the installation level by the Family Advocacy program manager.
The program is available to military families who are expecting a baby or have children age 3 or younger. Marine Corps eligibility includes families with at least one child under 5.

This is a regional program within the Hampton Roads area and is housed at Fleet and Family Support Center. This program is designed to assist expectant or new parents with parenting and military lifestyle challenges. There are two levels of services:
Level I – Information and Referral services
Level II – home visitation including family support, developmental screening of children, parent/home education as well as information and referral services

Budgeting for Baby
The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society provides a two-hour class, Budgeting for Baby, to help prepare families financially for the arrival of a new baby. Upon completion of the class, participants will receive a $50 gift card and a handmade blanket or sweater set. Budgeting for Baby is open to all ranks of Navy, Marine Corp and Coast Guard expectant parents and is not limited to first pregnancies.
Naval Air Station Oceana: Classes are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Virtual evening classes are held the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. To register for the class, contact the NMCRS at 757-433-3383.
Naval Station Norfolk: Classes are held weekly on Thursday at 10 a.m. Virtual class held once a month at 10 a.m.. To register for the class, contact the NMCRS at 757-322-1171.
Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek: Classes are held M-F by appointment. To make an appointment, contact the NMCRS at 757-462-1596.
Newport News (Huntington Hall): Quick Assist Loans; walk in or by appointment on Tuesday 9-2 p.m. 757-688-9120. Classes are available at Norfolk.
Naval Medical Center Portsmouth: Classes are held monthly, in person and virtual. To register for a class, contact the NMCRS at 757-953-5956.
Visiting Nurse
The NMCRS Visiting Nurse Program offers home visits to military families with a new baby, which includes an initial assessment for both mom and baby. Each visit is approximately 30-45 minutes and tailored to the needs of mother and child.
