Ramstein Air Base Newcomers' Info
Your sponsor and your command will be instrumental in helping you adjust to the new area. The Ramstein Military and Family Readiness Center staff is also available to help you during your tour in Ramstein.
Your gaining unit should assign you a sponsor and will provide you with current information that will assist you with your relocation. Make sure you exchange contact phone numbers and email addresses which will enable you to stay in touch before your permanent change of station. You should maintain contact with your sponsor while in transit and after arrival to your new location.
If you don't hear from your sponsor within 60 days of your report date, you should contact your new unit and they will assign you a sponsor.
If you are unable to reach anyone in your unit, you can also contact the Ramstein Military and Family Readiness Center at DSN 314-480-5100 or commercial: 011-49-6371-475100. You can also find essential information regarding your move on the Ramstein homepage.
Your sponsor can request a P.O. Box for you 90 days prior to arrival. To do this, you must provide a copy of your orders to your sponsor. You can use the P.O. Box to start forwarding your mail, especially items that need up to several weeks lead time for an address change.
Make temporary lodging arrangements as far ahead of your arrival as possible. Lodging facilities are located at Ramstein, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Vogelweh and Sembach Annex. They provide family, officer and enlisted quarters on a priority basis to all military and authorized civilians relocating to the Kaiserslautern Military Community. People on temporary duty or leave are accommodated on a space-available basis only.
To make reservations, you can call the central reservations desk office at 314-480-4920 or 06371-45-4920. The Ramstein Lodging Front Desk is open 24 hours and can be reached by calling 314-480-4960/4900 or 011-49-6371-47-4960/4900. The Kaiserslautern Military Community billeting office is located at the Ramstein Inn in Building 3336 on the lower entrance.
It is extremely important that your sponsor and your unit are aware of your travel plans. Keep them informed!
When the sponsor meets the unaccompanied member at the airport or PAX terminal, the first stop on base should be the Dormitory Reception Center to be assigned a room.
If an individual arrives on a weekend, holiday or down day, the sponsor can stop by DRC one day prior to get keys to a hospitality room until the member is able to contact DRC.
If you get married before your Permanent Change of Station, you must inform your leadership and follow the procedures to get your new dependent(s) command sponsored and added to your military orders. It could be extremely expensive if you opt to bring your dependent(s) over to Germany prior to them becoming command sponsored. Relocation costs (such as temporary lodging, meals etc.) associated with non-command sponsored dependents will not likely be reimbursed.
