With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
Make billeting/temporary lodging arrangements as far ahead of your arrival as possible. Lodging facilities are located at Ramstein, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and Vogelweh. They provide family, officer and enlisted quarters on a priority basis to all military and authorized civilians relocating to the Kaiserslautern Military Community. People on temporary duty or leave are accommodated on a Space-Available basis only.
To make reservations, call the central reservations desk office at 314-480-4920 or 06371-47-4920. Fax numbers are 06371-42589 or 314-480-7627 (from the United States, dial 011-49-6371-47-4920). For more information, visit the 86th Force Support Squadron website.
Coordinate and verify your reservation with your sponsor.
Temporary Lodging Allowance varies for each individual, based on the availability of housing at the time of your arrival. TLA may be authorized for up to 60 days while you aggressively seek housing. If you decline to accept government quarters when offered, you may have your TLA stopped.
The member must attend Ramstein in-processing within two days of arrival to be briefed on eligibility and procedures.
The Ramstein Inn operates three lodging facilities and three temporary lodging facilities on three different installations (Ramstein, Vogelweh and Landstuhl). The chart below provides helpful contact information for temporary lodging.
For more information on the lodging facilities, visit the 86 FSS site.
Important: Single or unaccompanied military members in grades E-1 through E-3 and E-4s with less than three years service are not authorized Temporary Lodging Allowance. When the sponsor meets the unaccompanied member at the airport, the first stop on base should be to report to their zone Airmen Dorm Leader (ADL) to be assigned a room. If the individual arrives on a weekend, holiday or down day, the sponsor can contact the ADL one day prior to receive room assignment.
Please note: At present there is no organizational email or internet address for the ADL. However, a voicemail message can be left at DSN 480-3676.
Noncommand Sponsored Policy
Military members will be responsible for any expenses incurred when moving noncommand sponsored dependents overseas, and they will not receive TLA for their dependents unless they are command sponsored.
