Legal assistance is available to you and your family. Below, you’ll find information about claims and installation specific programs and services. If you have questions, reach out to the legal assistance program at your installation.
The Ramstein Legal Office staff provides free legal assistance to all Active Duty, Reserve, ANG, DoD civilian employees assigned overseas, military retirees, and their dependents. In addition, notaries are offered to DOD contractors who have "Status of Forces Agreement status" Contractors are only eligible for other legal assistance if the contract specifically provides for legal assistance and the contract is provided to the legal office.
Types of Services
Attorneys provide advice and assistance on personal, civil and legal matters such as marriage, divorce, claims, contracts, personal financial problems, the Service Members' Civil Relief Act, wills, advance medical directives and powers of attorney. While our paralegal staff provides special and general POAs as well as notary services.
Claims
Most traditional claims processing, including household goods claims and vehicle claims, are overseen by the Air Force Claims Service Center. The Army legal offices are the approving authority on all other claims. The base legal office is available to assist claimants with turning in their Department of Defense Forms 1840/1840R, scanning/uploading documents to the AFCSC and performing claims inspections.
