There are many employment opportunities on Sheppard Air Force Base. The Army and Air Force Exchange Service has openings in food service at the base exchange and shoppettes. Appropriated, non-appropriated fund, and Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) positions are also available on base. To apply for positions, please visit USAjobs.org.

The Military and Family Readiness Center displays job postings every Monday and Thursday on their Facebook page. Community readiness consultants and specialists are available to help find the right job for your qualifications. Various classes for employment are offered monthly as well. Sheppard AFB is the largest employer in Wichita Falls, Texas. North Texas State Hospital is our second largest employer, with the Wichita Falls Independent School District coming in third. There are many other job opportunities in Wichita Falls, including the United Regional Healthcare System, Midwestern State University, James V. Allred Unit state prison, the city of Wichita Falls, Wichita County, manufacturing companies, and social service agencies, as well as many retail and food establishments.

Separating/retiring personnel should contact the Transition Assistance Program at the Military and Family Readiness Center at 940-676-4358.
It is now mandatory for all military members with more than 180 days of service to attend Transition Goals, Plans, Success (also known as the TAP Workshop). This workshop is three days long and includes employment-related information from the Department of Labor and information on all Veterans Affairs benefits. Separatees may attend the workshop up to one year out, and retirees may attend up to two years out. Spouses are also encouraged to attend.
The Military and Family Readiness Center is a primary point of contact for information on scholarships and programs. Spouses and family members may also apply for the Sheppard Spouses’ Club scholarships. These scholarship applications are normally available November through February for the following fall and winter semesters. The Air Force Aid Society offers the General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant. See the AFAS website for details. Also, contact the local colleges and universities for information on scholarships and Pell Grants.
