Programs and services are available at most installations for children up to age 12. Care may be provided in Child Development Centers, School Age Care Programs, and Family Child Care Homes. Please review the information to find out what programs and services are available at this installation. Please contact the Child and Youth Program point of contact at this installation if you require information, assistance or resources for child care in your local community.
The Family Child Care (FCC) Program provides child care services for children from 2 weeks to 12 years old in government-owned or government-leased housing, both on and off the installation. FCC providers offer flexible schedules to support parents’ diverse care needs, including full-time, part-time, drop-in care, infant care, evening, weekend, extended duty care, as well as care for PCS (Permanent Change of Station) and deployment needs.
Regulations for FCC Providers:Family Child Care providers are certified by the installation to operate. To ensure the safety and quality of care, regulations limit the number of children who can be cared for at one time to:
No more than six children under 8 years old, including their own children, and
No more than two children under 2 years old.
FCC providers may voluntarily seek national accreditation from the National Association of Family Child Care and are offered local support, training, and materials to help achieve this accreditation.
Fee Assistance & Subsidies:Subsidies may be available to help reduce child care fees in some FCC homes, potentially beyond what is typically paid at a child development center. For more information on fee assistance and subsidies, visit ChildCareAware.org.

The Sheppard AFB Child Development Center (CDC) is located in Building 195 and provides full-time care for children from infants to 5 years old. For information on availability, programs, fees, and reservations, please call 940-676-2038 or DSN 312-736-2038.
EligibilityAll military personnel, DoD civilians, and contractors working on base are eligible to use the Child Development Center for their child care needs.
Waiting ListIf the CDC is full, a waiting list will be used to place eligible children. While waiting for a slot, referrals may be made to the Family Child Care Program.
Programs OfferedThe Sheppard AFB CDC offers the following programs:
Full Day Care:Available 5 days per week, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There are hourly and weekly payment plans available.
Hourly Care:Available Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for children ages 1-5 years. The cost is $8 per hour per child, with meals included. Call the morning of to check for available spots.
A minimum of one hour will be charged, with increments in half-hour blocks.
Hourly care requires a current shot record and the most recent well-baby or physical report.

The School-Age Program (SAP) provides care for children in kindergarten through 6th grade. This program offers care before and after school, as well as during non-school, as well as during non-school days (spring break, teacher work days) and summer vacations. SAP ensures that children have a well-rounded experience, including both educational and recreational activities.
Programs Offered:
Program Accreditation:All SAP programs are certified by the Department of Defense (DoD) and accredited by a national accrediting body, such as the Council on Accreditation, ensuring high-quality care for children.
Hours of Operation:The SAP is open Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location:The program is located at 118 Ave., Bldg 1 on Sheppard AFB.
