Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
Military members with pets housed on base must register the pet with the veterinary office within one week of arrival. To register pets, current inoculation certificates are required. Texas requires annual rabies vaccinations, which may be obtained at the animal disease prevention and control facility.
There is no quarantine for pets arriving from overseas locations if the pet owner has: 1) stated that the pet has no diseases; 2) a statement from a veterinarian that the pet has no diseases; 3) current rabies tag.
Always check with the Traffic Management Office or the airline for more information on shipping pets by air, overseas, etc. Most airlines will not ship pets during the summer months due to the heat.
It is a good idea to make advanced reservations at a local kennel for pets as soon as you know your arrival date. There are no kennels on base and there are a limited amount of pet friendly houses in billeting.
Some local pet boarding businesses include but are not limited to:
Check the yellow pages of the local phone book under "Kennels" for a complete listing of kennels in the local area. In addition, most local veterinarians also offer boarding services.
