If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. The Base Education Office is the gateway to many educational opportunities. Its services program provides access to both on base and on-campus curricula. This includes Midwestern State University, Vernon College, Wayland Baptist University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Three excellent universities and colleges have a service agreement with the base and are conveniently located in Building 402 next to the Education Office. Wayland Baptist University and Vernon College offer classes in Wichita Falls and on Sheppard Air Force Base. While Embry Riddle Aeronautical University offers classes on base. All three schools also offer courses online. Wayland Baptist University Wichita Falls campus is located on Call Field road. Vernon College's Century City Center is conveniently located on Midwestern Parkway. Midwestern Statue University is the largest of the colleges and is located on Midwestern Parkway.
Vernon College
Vernon College is a two year regionally accredited University. They offer technical programs up to two years in length leading to associates degrees or certificates, vocational programs leading directly to employment in semi-skilled and skilled occupations, and continuing adult education programs for occupational upgrading and personal enrichment. Accredited online courses are available as well. Vernon College is located at their Vernon campus, the Century City Center located across the street from the mall in Wichita Falls, and the Sheppard Learning Center on base. Courses are offered during the Fall, Winter and Summer semesters. Vernon College also offers an Associate’s degree nursing program with an LVN track that offers day and night courses.
Wayland Baptist University
Wayland Baptist University of Wichita Falls was established in 1974 at Sheppard Air Force Base. Wayland opened a location in the Call Field Shopping Center in November of 2002. On October 2010 we opened a National Testing Center to provide CLEP/DANTES. We meet the needs of military students by providing resources and services at Sheppard Air Force Base. Four eleven week terms are offered. The Wichita Falls campus is open to enrollment for any student over the age of 18. Traditional university student facilities are not available (dorms and dining). Degrees offered in Wichita Falls: Associate of Applied Science, Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Christian Ministry, Master of Arts in Management, Masters of Business Administration, Master of Education and Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification, Master of Public Administration (available online), and a Master of Christian Ministry (available online). Embry-Riddle University
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers two undergraduate degrees and one graduate degree at Sheppard AFB. The degrees include Associate/Bachelor in Professional Aeronautics and Associate/Bachelor in Technical Management. For those students seeking a graduate degree, ERAU offers a Master of Aeronautical degree. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University also accepts credit for military training established by the ACE guide. Tuition Assistance
The Base Education Office administers the Air Force tuition assistance program. Education Service Specialists are available to assist Airmen with all of their educational needs. The WAPS testing office administers all Military testing; WAPS, PME, AFOQT, DLAB, and other specialty tests. For more information please call 676-6231.
The Sheppard Education Office is the central point of contact for college classes on and off base. They can also assist with information on taking GED, CLEP, GRE, and other exams. The Education Office is located in building 402, call 676-6231 for more information.
