If a financial emergency occurs while you are traveling you have several options:
1. If you are near any military installation of any branch of service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine, Coast Guard), contact that installation's emergency relief office (Army Emergency Relief, Air Force Aid Society, Navy Relief Society, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance) for assistance. You will need your ID card and a copy of your PCS orders. That office will advise you as to what other documentation you might need.
2. If you are not near a military installation, contact the nearest chapter of the American Red Cross. They can provide financial assistance directly, or contact Air Force Aid Society headquarters for assistance.
In other cases, or when referred to the Air Force Aid Society:
1. Register online (afas.org).
2. Follow the directions to apply for a loan.
3. If approved, AFAS will ZELLE requested funds to your account
Other programs offered by the Air Force Aid Society include: Child Care for PCS and Give Parents a Break.
No matter how well you plan, emergencies do happen. Emergency assistance is available from the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS.org) and Army Emergency Relief (armyemergencyrelief.org). Grants and no interest loans are available for emergencies. The Military and Family Readiness Center is available to provide assistance to those experiencing an emergency situation with the websites.
