With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
Reservations:
Once you arrive, make your first stop the Inns of Dyess at 225 5th St. Building 7420. Hours of operation are 24/7. They will set you up with a place to stay as you begin in-processing.
Most rooms are within walking distance of the dining facility, club, base exchange and commissary.
Another tip: People on official travel should make lodging reservations early. Call 325-696-2681 or DSN 461-2681, or visit the Dyess Air Force Base website.
Reservations at the Inns of Dyess can be made for families inbound on permanent change of station orders; however, reservations are not guaranteed. Accommodations are on a first-come, first-served basis by your reservation number. When making reservations, call DSN 312-461-2681 or 325-696-2681 and provide the following information: your name, rank, organization, arrival/departure date, phone number, email address and number of people in your family. You can also send an email to 7FSS.LodgingManagement@us.af.mil with the above information.
The Inns of Dyess does not allow pets in most rooms; however, eight rooms in the temporary lodging facilities have been converted to accommodate guests with a dog or a cat.
Visiting quarters are $89.00 a night; distinguished visitor quarters (business) are $97; large distinguished visitor suites are $97; and temporary lodging facilities (large, with two bedrooms) are $96.00. The TLF pet fee is $10 extra per unit per night.
Because of the uncertainty of available on-base facilities, financial plans should be made to defray the cost of living off base. Temporary housing in motels and mobile homes is generally limited and becomes relatively expensive when the stay is for two or more weeks. A list of area motels offering efficiency apartments ($75-$182 per week) is provided to newcomers by the housing office and the Inns of Dyess.
Dyess Inn does not allow pets in most rooms, but some rooms in our Temporary Lodging Facilities have been converted to accommodate guests with a dog or a cat. There is a nonrefundable charge of $10 per day on top of the normal room rate for those rooms. Since facilities are very limited, pet boarding arrangements should be made in advance.
Those who obtain accommodations in one of the 16 temporary lodging facilities quarters may stay a maximum of 30 days. Extensions may be granted in cases of hardship, if vacancies exist.
For directions to Dyess Air Force Base, see the "Location" topic at the top of this page, then go to "Installation" and "Directions."
Once you go through the main gate, go straight on Arnold Boulevard to the traffic circle. You'll be going third-quarters of the way around the circle, then moving to the inside lane of the circle when clear, passing the turns for Fifth Street (Northbound) and Avenue B, then move back to the outside lane and turn right onto Fifth Street (Southbound). Stay on Fifth Street until you reach Building 7409, the Dyess Inn, then turn left into the parking lot.
Very Important: Even though you can stay in a Temporary Lodging Facility for up to 30 days (with reservations), you will only be authorized financial reimbursement for 10 days of that stay.
