Relocation Assistance

Your Military and Family Support Center provides relocation assistance to help make PCS moves as smooth as possible. Resources include:

• PCS planning: Most relocation assistance programs offer consultations to help you with the moving process. If this your first military move, your first time moving overseas or you have challenging or complex circumstances contact your installation Relocation Assistance Program as soon as possible for support.
• Plan My Move: An online Defense Department relocation tool that provides you with customizable checklists and links to helpful resources for the tasks ahead.
• Military OneSource: A website and call center that offer 24/7 support for moving information and resources. Learn more about PCS basics. For comprehensive moving resources and information, including Defense Personal Property log in details, visit Moving Your Personal Property.
• Workshops and briefings: Workshops vary by location. You may find classes on housing options, moving with children, moving with pets and more.
• Predeparture briefings: These sessions provide essential information about your move and may be required for some populations.
• Special needs: If you have a child or family member enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program, contact your installation EFMP-Family Support office to assist you.
• Settling-in services: Look for welcome programs or local area tours that may be offered. Overseas services may include introductory language classes and cultural awareness activities.
• Foreign-born spouse support: Assistance includes information and referral to resources such as immigration and naturalization.
• Emergency assistance: Sometime emergencies occur while moving. The Military and Family Support Center has the resources to provide emergency financial assistance, as well as information and referrals.
• Authorized housing flexibility options: Eligible service members with PCS orders may be entitled to flexibilities such as extended stays in government housing and early housing eligibility. Contact your military personnel office for more information.
• Spouse licensure reimbursement: Your service branch may reimburse spouses up to $1,000 for relicensure and certification costs resulting from relocations or PCS moves. The Military and Family Readiness Center is located at 382 Avenue D in Building 7215. The Airman's Attic is available in the M&FRC. Hours of operations are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except for designated holidays. You can reach the M&FRC and the Airman’s Attic at 325-696-5999 or DSN 312-461-59994.

INSTALLATION SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Dyess M&FRC Relocation Assistance Program provides the services below to help you in making a less stressful move.

• Please note that there is no Loan Locker service provided by the M&FRC.
• We have a Thrift Shop on base, and the Salvation Army and Goodwill stores downtown provide low-cost clothing and furnishings.
• Personnel returning from overseas should be aware that there is no furnishing management office providing furniture or appliances for loan pending arrival of household goods.

Pre-Arrival Orientation

This virtual workshop supports incoming members before even getting here. Multiple base organizations are participating to help you get informed to make your PCS easier. Call the M&FRC at 325-696-5999 to register, or email 7FSS.A.FRC@us.af.mil.

Newcomers orientation

You will be scheduled by your unit command support staff during your in-processing to attend Newcomers Orientation within 30 days of arrival. Spouses are encouraged to attend this part (which includes an Info Fair) as well as the Downtown Tour that follows.

Sponsorship

In addition to the Mandatory e-SAT training, all Dyess sponsors are encouraged to attend the Supplemental Sponsorship Workshop, designed to improve newcomers' integration and ultimately boost unit morale.

Employment Assistance

This program is designed to assist the military, civilians, and family members in achieving short- and long-term employment by referring individuals for education and training and establishing career goals in the private and public sectors. Services also include resources for self-employment, small business, and entrepreneurial efforts. Make this your first stop once you are settled and ready to begin your search for employment. Spouses may be re-imbursed up to $1000 for re-licensure or small business costs encountered in conjunction with PCS.

Information, Referral and Follow-up

These services help individuals and families identify and clarify needs, determine appropriate forms of assistance and provide linkage to resources including exceptional family member resources. The M&FRC will ensure client access to listings of on- and off-base services and information, as well as web-based resources. Assistance with on- and off-base employment and resources are available.

• Air Force Aid Society provides for 20 hours of childcare at both departing and arrival stations for families making a permanent change of station (PCS) within 60 days of PCS departure/arrival. Call or stop by the M&FRC for information or you can visit the Air Force Aid Society web page for further details.
• Members coming to Dyess AFB with an exceptional family member should contact the Exceptional Family Member Program coordinator at the M&FRC at 325-696-5999 to find support, information and referrals for identified medical and educational needs. It is also recommended to contact the School Liaison Officer - 325-696-4591.
• The Department of Defense is launching a three-year Child Care Pilot Program (October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2027) to reimburse service members for travel expenses (up to $500 CONUS, $1500 OCONUS) for a temporary child care provider following a Permanent Change of Station (PCS). This program aims to ease the burden on military families during PCS moves by allowing them to bring a caregiver (typically a relative or friend) to assist with child care while settling in - find more details here.
  • To be eligible, child care at the Child Development Center at the new duty location must NOT be available within 30 days of the service member's report date, verified through the MilitaryChildCare.com website.
  • Reimbursement covers commercial transportation costs for the provider (flights, rail, rental car), but not salary, room, board, or privately owned vehicle mileage (fuel is reimbursable).
  • Only one provider per family is authorized, and only one service member in a military-to-military couple can apply.
