When you arrive at your new installation, you’ll need to follow installation-specific procedures. Each installation and service handles in-processing differently. Here, you can find installation-specific guidelines and a list of documents to bring with you when checking- in. Reach out to the contacts provided if you have specific questions.
All incoming military personnel report to their individual Commands/units and sponsor for each branch specific orientation. Each branch of military has their own reporting in and after-hours procedures. Please let your Command and Sponsor know when you are arriving and where you are staying. Fort Meade is a large post and bus transportation is very limited on post. Incoming personnel will need a vehicle to get around on post. There are no car rental agencies on Fort Meade, but many car rentals agencies are available at the Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and the surrounding area.
For Army personnel who are going to be assigned or attached to U.S. Army Garrison Fort Meade, Partner and tenant U.S. Army units must attend a mandatory five-day In-processing session upon arrival to the installation. During this process Service Members receive Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Training Phase I & II, Sponsorship Training, In-process Personnel, Finance, Transportation, Medical, Dental and Tri-care. Service Members will also attend the Newcomer's Orientation where they will receive a welcome from the Installation Commander and receive briefings about support services provided by the installation.
Garrison In-processing week will start based upon the day the Service Member sign into their unit or the next duty day. Attendance at all 5 days is required to complete in-processing. Upon completion of this In-processing session all soldiers will have met the Department of the Army mandatory training requirement in completing 16 hours of Master Resiliency Training along with completing all other related in-processing requirements prior to reporting to their unit for duty.
Incoming Marine, Navy, Air Force and civilian personnel report to their individual command /personnel office. You will be enrolled in your own service's orientation process and will be informed on which day spouses are encouraged to attend.
All Military Spouses are invited to the virtual "Newcomer's Orientation" held every other Wednesday during January through October and during November 13 and 20. The December briefing will be on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. All Military Spouses are invited to attend. Temporary lodging reservation
On Fort Meade, IHG/Candlewood Suites Family Lodging reservation can be made anytime for service members who are in a PCS or temporary duty travel status. The facility is pet friendly and consists of 243 rental units with kitchenettes, laundry facility on each floor, fitness center, business center, volleyball court, lending locker, free hot breakfast and a sweet shop.
For temporary off-post lodging, call Residential Communities Initiative Housing office for a list of extended-stay hotels and pet-friendly hotels in the area. Call 301-677-7748, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.
For single military personnel, Bachelor Housing Office, 6405 Simonds St., 301-677-4783/2458 hours, 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. Each military service has different rules and regulations for single military personnel to live off post. Please check with your branch of service before moving off post as you could be denied Basic Allowance for Housing.
If you get married before you PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures required to enroll your new spouse into DEERS. Official DEERS enrollment is critically important to ensure pay and benefits, especially for PCS travel and temporary housing, are properly calculated.
Vehicle registration is not required on Fort George G. Meade.
