Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
Travel with a pet can be challenging unless you plan ahead. Talk to your local veterinarian about the safest and most comfortable travel for your pet; whether by train or car. See the USDA Pets website to ensure the pet's comfort and safety.
Pets do not have to be quarantined on arrival in the Eastern US. Information on bringing pets back to the states can be found at the CDC's Animal Importation website.
Hanscom AFB does not offer pet boarding; the Lodging facility has eight pet-friendly rooms for two pets - cats and/or dogs only. Call 30 days prior to departure to reserve space. There are local boarding facilities. Keep in mind the kennels are only open until five or six p.m. In the summer the kennels get busy, so make sure you make reservations early. Plan to pay $20 - $30 per day per pet for boarding in our area; more if your pet is on medication.
