Resources are available to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one financial counseling to assist you and your family with financial readiness. Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement. Financial readiness educational opportunities range from basic planning to long-term investing. Check out the information below to see what’s available at your installation.
The Military & Family Readiness center offers financial counseling, education, as well as situation-specific information and referral to active duty, reserve, retirees and each of their dependents. Financial counselors are available to provide assistance in creating customized spending plans, assisting with credit report problems, creating a plan for saving and investing, retirement planning, etc. We conduct education classes on reducing debt, saving and investing, marriage and finances, money and kids, planning for retirement to include the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) and Blended Retirement System (BRS), improving your credit score, car buying, debt management and many other financial education subjects. The American Red Cross can help with emergency financial assistance through the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS). This includes other military branch personnel located within 50 miles of Hill AFB. Eligible members are Active Duty service members, Title 10 activated Guard or Reserve members, immediate family members of the previous two categories, a military retiree, or spouse/widow of a retiree. Go to http://www.afas.org/ to review eligibility, types of situations you can request assistance, and how to apply for a no-interest loan or grant. For after-hours emergencies or travel that cannot wait until the next duty day, or if you are not within 50 miles of a military installation, please contact the American Red Cross at 877-272-7337.
