If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. College of the Florida Keys (CFK) and Saint Leo University offer achievable programs in two years.
Saint Leo University
Saint Leo University offers both an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Bachelor degree programs in Criminal Justice, Human Resources, Computer Information Systems, and Business Administration. The courses are offered face-to face, via VTC, or on-line. The current semester hour fee for St. Leo is $250 for military, reservist, and their families, $380 for civilians and veterans.
College of the Florida Keys
CFK is located 4 miles from NAS Boca Chica and offers several face-to face academic and technical Associate/Bachelor degrees. The college offers a wide variety of courses ranging from history and Spanish courses to scuba diving and computer courses. CFK also offers computer based CLEP/DSST testing for a reasonable fee.
Testing
Saint Leo's provided college level exams for college credit and are offered at no charge to active duty, the most common are the CLEP/DSST exams.
Tuition Assistance
TA is available to active duty personal as well as several grants including the MyCAA for eligible military spouses.
