Rental/Purchase Options
The Florida Keys community is based on the tourist industry and many use the Keys as their recreation playground. Housing ranges from $1800-4000 per month for a room or small home or trailer. Most service members live on base for this reason. Your local housing office, as well as the Relocation Counselor can help provide up-to-date details about government housing and information about the real estate market in the Keys. To get a feel for prospects contact the Fleet and Family Support Center's Information and Referral Office, the Housing Welcome Center and the local Chamber of Commerce. Another excellent resource is your assigned sponsor.
Housing Referral Office (HRO)
The HRO is your contact for any problems you may encounter such as discrimination complaints, tenant/landlord disputes, or any questions or problems about off base housing. The HRO will provide you a list of rentals with corresponding locator maps and give you information regarding the communities in which the rentals are located. All renters should carry renters insurance against fire, theft and other damages. The property owner's insurance will cover the property but not the renter's personal property.
