Programs and services are available at most installations for children up to age 12. Care may be provided in Child Development Centers, School Age Care Programs, and Family Child Care Homes. Please review the information to find out what programs and services are available at this installation. Families at Patuxent River will find an invaluable resource with the many Child Development Programs. With two Child Development Centers, Child Development Homes, School Age Care, and a Teen Center families have many options. The two Child Development Centers are accredited or pursuing accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, hold Department of Defense certifications and participate in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program for breakfasts, lunches, and afternoon snacks. All child development professionals use The Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies to provide developmentally appropriate activities that nurture children socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually to reach child development milestones and school readiness skills.
Both Child Development Centers and the Child Development Homes provide care for children ages six weeks through the end of preschool, the School Age Care and Teen center offer before and after school programs for children ages five through seventeen.
Eligibility
All active duty, DOD civilian employees, active reservists on orders, and the retirees associated with NAS Patuxent River, Webster Field and Solomon's Annex are eligible to use this program.
Enrollment
Eligible personnel seeking child care within Naval District Washington (including NAS Patuxent River) can make a request online at MilitaryChildCare.com. MilitaryChildCare.com is a DOD, centralized website which allows families to search for and request care, manage their requests, and update their profile online, making it easier to find child care. Simply create an account online at MilitaryChildCare.com. Then search the system for the child care options that best fit your needs and submit your request(s). Eligible personnel seeking enrollment into the various Child and Youth Programs offered at NAS Patuxent River can enroll, pay, and register online via the CNIC CYP website at NAVY CYP.
Fees
Parent fees for military Child Development Centers, subsidized Child Development Homes, and School-Age Care Programs are based on total family income. TFI is defined as "all earned income including wages, salaries, tips long-term disability benefits, voluntary salary deferrals, quarters allowances, and subsistence received by adults, married or not, sharing expenses toward the benefit of the children in residence. TFI includes pay for service in a combat zone or anything else of value, even if not taxable, that was received for providing services. Quarters allowances and subsistence allowances mean Minimum Basic Allowance for Housing and the Basic Allowance for Subsistence received by military personnel (for grade and status) and the value of meals and lodging furnished in-kind to military personnel residing on military bases.

Naval Station Patuxent River utilizes two Child Development Centers to provide full and part day early care and education services for children ages six weeks through the end of preschool in a center-based learning environment. Personnel seeking child care within Naval District Washington (include NAS Patuxent River) can make a request online at Military Child Care To make payments, hourly care reservations, and enroll into various youth program activities online personnel are encouraged to register and log into CYP Online Services.
Programs Offered
Full-time and part-time care, drop-in child care, hourly care, and same day reservations when space is available.

The Child Development Home program at Patuxent River offers licensed home daycare providers in the various Navy and civilian housing areas. Children in CDH care are able to experience a warm, family environment in a provider's home allowing them to build a trusting relationship with a provider who will foster their curiosity and creativity, provide guidance and give them the hugs they need! Care in a CDH may be full or part-time on a regularly scheduled basis with possible options for drop-in, nights, or weekends with fees determined by the sponsors' Total Combined Family Income. The CDH weekly fee reflects a 20% lower fee than published center-based fees.

The School Age Care Program (SAC) hosts a variety of organized, supervised activities for children ages 5-12 before and after school and during the summer months. Children can engage in music, drama, arts and crafts, outdoor sports, and recreation activities. The SAC encourages self-reliance, leadership, social and safety skills through both structured and child-directed activities. The program is also affiliated with the Boys/Girls Club of America (BGCA) and the Maryland State 4H program.
School Liaison Officer
The Naval Air Station Patuxent River School Liaison Officer (SLO) works to connect commanders, educators, and parents. They serve as the subject matter experts for K-12 education issues. The SLO's primary function is to provide transition support to DoD-eligible families with school-age children to ensure smooth transitions between schools and positive educational experiences. The SLO can provide numerous resources to assist families, educators, and commands in their efforts to create positive and supportive educational environments for military children.
