If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. The Navy Virtual Education Center (VEC) is now your prime educational resource, offers basic skills education, GED requirements, testing, college information, and many more programs.
The Navy pays all tuition for a high school diploma or equivalency program for active duty members.
The DoD Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (MySECO) program offers education, scholarships, and career guidance to military spouses worldwide.
Eligible service members have two options for tuition assistance for off-duty education. The Tuition Assistance and Navy College Program for Afloat College Education. Both programs pay up to 100% of tuition within fiscal year/career caps charged by educational institutions. Military veterans can also check on education benefits via the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Navy College Office on NAS Patuxent River closed as of 01 Oct 2016. You will need to access the Navy Virtual Education Center for all of the above mentioned information and other educational services available to eligible service members.
