A wide range of programs are available for youth and teens, including youth sports and recreation programs, educational programs and programs that support leadership and career development. Please review the information to learn what programs and services are available at this installation.
So you are moving to NAS Patuxent River. You will be pleasantly surprised at how beautiful this area is and all that it has to offer. There is a multitude of outdoor activities to do such as going to the beach, boating, fishing, crabbing and hunting, and much more.
Youth and Teens
The Rassieur Youth Center provides programs and activities for youth ages 5 through 18 along with events for the family and community. Youth Ages 5-12 are offered programs such as the School Age Care Program. Open Recreation is offered free daily to ages 11-18 in the winter from 5:30-8:00 p.m., Mon. Fri. and in the summer to ages 13-18, noon to 8:00 p.m.
Transportation is provided for Open Recreation. Please call 301-342-1694 to arrange a pickup. Please call for transportation before 5:30 p.m.
Volunteerism opportunities exist for ages 13-18 for tutoring, homework assistance, and opportunities for community service through our Keystone program are offered. Participants provide input on what services they want to provide and what programs and supplies they want to see in the Youth Center. Monthly programmed events are offered for Teens, Youth, and families. Teen camp and special events are scheduled throughout the summer months.
The School Age Care Program (SAC) is a nationally accredited program hosting a variety of organized, supervised activities and is a part of the Boys and Girls Club of America and 4-H. Children can engage in music, drama, fine arts, and outdoor sports and recreation activities, crafts, science, technology, and photography. The SAC encourages self-reliance, character/ leadership/ social skills, and safety networking through both structured and child-directed activities. Programs are available for before and/or after-school care and hourly care.
Youth Sponsorship Program
Currently, the Youth Sponsorship Program offers a welcome brochure at the housing office and any youth/ family entering our program receives a tour of our facility and a welcome folder with a map of the base and some information for the family to get familiar with our programs and what the base has to offer. Youth /teens entering into our programs are paired with peer mentors. These trained mentors assist in acclimation to the new environment and helping the youth learn the ropes of the program, and helping them get on /off the correct bus.

Teen Employment
The team at the Fleet and Family Support Center aboard NAS Patuxent River can provide resume guidance and job search techniques for our teen audience. The resources at the Fleet and Family Support Center can help teenagers begin their journey for employment. Referral services for volunteer positions are also provided. These experiences will enhance the marketable skills needed to secure paid positions. The program offers assistance in writing resumes, completing applications, networking, and interviewing techniques.

Family Programming - We offer monthly programs at the Youth Center for youth, teens, and the entire family. The monthly calendar of events is located at all MWR information stands and the Youth Center. Teens ages 13 - 14 can be in the Leader in Training program that offers volunteer work that can be used for the graduation requirements.
Teens ages 15-18 may participate in the Career Launch and Job Ready night and be a Work Wise teen employee. It is a grant-funded program offering teens an opportunity to learn job skills and employment techniques.
The Rassieur Youth Center provides the School Age Care Program and many other programs. During the summer, there are extra hours and activities provided. The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department at Naval Air Station Patuxent River is an active, ongoing program that keeps the military children busy and involved. MWR Base Amenities For Youth Use
Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) adds to the outdoor, as well as indoor, fun by providing sports activities such as paddle boating, canoeing, camping, golfing, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, weight training, exercise classes, swimming and bowling. The base even has a movie theater, a woodworking shop and a do-it-yourself auto repair garage.
