A wide range of programs are available for youth and teens, including youth sports and recreation programs, educational programs and programs that support leadership and career development. Please review the information to learn what programs and services are available at this installation.
The Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) has partnered with Fleet and Family Readiness Youth and Teen Programs to offer employment and financial education opportunities.
Employment Readiness - One-on-one counseling is available to include resume writing, job search techniques, completing an application, preparing for the interview, and much more. For appointments, call the Regional Schedulers at 866-854-0638.
Teen Employment Program - Summer opportunities for teen employment with the Child and Youth Programs and other Fleet and Family Readiness Programs sponsored by CNIC. Encourages on-the-job training and career development.
Curfew Information
Oak Harbor does not have a youth curfew.
The Fleet and Family Readiness Programs (FFRP) provides a variety of programs for 6–17-year-old (18 if still enrolled in high school) throughout the year as well as a series of summer camps through the Youth and Teen Programs.
Youth Activities CenterThe Youth Activities Center is located at 54 Wake Street, Oak Harbor in the Victory Homes housing area. Currently there is no fee to be a member and the center is open to all Department of Defense youth grades 6 to 12 to include military retired family members.
Youth Recreation and Sports
Open Recreation is available at the Youth Activities Center after school and early evening. Activities include foosball, video games, pool, team sports, and online computer access as well as homework assistance.
Currently there are no organized sports programs sponsored by FFR. The City of Oak Harbor does offer annual competitive sporting opportunities; details are published in the local newspaper, Whidbey News Times and on the City of Oak Harbor website.
School Break and Summer Camps
During the winter, spring, and summer school breaks, Open Recreation offers programs for 6th to 12th graders and School Age Care (SAC) offers programs for kindergarten to 6th graders. Summer Camp schedules and information flyers are usually published in May of each year and available at http://whidbey.navylifepnw.com.
Youth Social Programs
The Youth Center is open to eligible family members in grades 6th-12th. The Open Recreation staff organizes various activities such as talent shows, lock-ins, and dances as well as trips to local area attractions. Memberships for open recreation are free and registration is taken directly at the facility. Some fees will apply for field trips and special events. Youth Calendar and Sponsorship Program
The youth activities calendar is available for pick up at the Youth Activities Center.
The Youth Sponsorship Program was created to help youth be more comfortable when they move to a new area. To join in the fun, complete a Youth Sponsor request form available by calling 360-257-3150 or by visiting The Youth Sponsor page. When you request a youth sponsor, we will do our best to match you with another youth based on your age/grade and interests.
Youth Religious Programs
The NAS Whidbey Island Chapel offers Catholic youth education classes. Call 360-257-2414 for schedules. Many of our local churches have outstanding youth programs to include Youth Dynamics, a non-denominational youth program.
Boy and Girl Scouts
NAS Whidbey Island does not sponsor any scouting programs on the installation; however, scouting programs are available in the community. To find out more about Boy Scouts for the Island District, visit Mount Baker Council. For more information about the Girl Scouts, visit the Totem Council website.
