The Navy Sponsor Program directs a sponsor for service members undergoing a permanent change of station move. The designated command sponsor should make contact with the service member prior to their transfer from the detaching duty station. The sponsor from your new command will provide you with internet links containing materials relative to the command and local community. If you have not been contacted prior to your scheduled transfer date, request the detaching duty station assist you in contacting your next command to identify your designated sponsor.
If you get married, have a newborn child, or adopt a child before your permanent change of station, you must inform your chain of command, administrative office and follow the procedures given. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your family members if you do not follow proper procedures. Your service record's Record of Emergency Data and Dependency Application must have all family members recorded prior to executing your PCS orders. If you get married in transit to your new duty station, special circumstances will apply and your local administrative office will have all the answers.
