Although the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay and the surrounding communities may not be considered high-cost living areas, Service Members and their families are often surprised by the initial outlay of money required to become established in the community. Service Members stationed at Kings Bay may receive their Base Pay, Specialty Pay, Basic Allowance for Housing and Basic Allowance Subsistence. Waiting time for government quarters will vary greatly depending on family size and needs; therefore, families may want to consider renting a temporary house or apartment until they can obtain quarters. There are a number of motels and hotels in the surrounding communities with rates from $70 to $300 per night.
