When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Single service members E-4 and below assigned to submarine base and tenant commands are required to live in unaccompanied housing. The unaccompanied housing complex consists of 1,474 rooms and can house 1,434 individuals. Single Marines will be housed in two-man rooms per Marine Corps standards, while all others will have a private room with a shared bath. Wi-Fi is available from Sprint and in-room cable services are provided by Comcast. Laundry rooms are available 24 hours a day for residents' use only. All rooms are nonsmoking, and designated smoking areas in each complex. The front desk is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week.
Service members who received single Basic Allowance for Housing at their previous duty station will be required to live in unaccompanied housing. Single E-5 and above are generally not housed in unaccompanied housing, and it is recommended that they arrange for other appropriate housing prior to reporting to Kings Bay.
Service members with dependents that desire to reside in unaccompanied housing must submit a request in accordance with Submarine Base Instruction 11103.1U. It is recommended that service members submit their request at least 30 days prior to their anticipated report date. Members in pay grades E-6 and above may request for assignment as a resident advisor in accordance with Submarine Base Instruction 11103.5C. It is recommended that the request is submitted at least 30 days prior to anticipated report date.
