Check-in Procedures

Most newcomers arrive in Naples at Capodichino International Airport.

Sponsors will provide transportation to those newcomers. Please keep your sponsor advised of your arrival date.

All sponsor needs to reach out to the Area Orientation Coordinators to schedule your AO participation dates and receive the necessary paperwork.

Area Orientation

Step 1:

• The newcomers' sponsors will need to sign them up for In-person Area Orientation via email or by calling the AO Coordinators. The command, assigned sponsor, or newcomer will have the ability to register. The following information is needed for enrollment: newcomer name, rank/GS level, personal email address, command, date of arrival, and assigned sponsor name and contact information.
• Each newcomer will receive a packet that includes forms needed during and after Area Orientation, for things such as Sojourners paperwork etc. Also included, will be a base map and local area maps. The assigned command sponsor will be provided with links to the AO packet along with other useful links, or they may pick up a packet at the FFSC Front Desk prior to newcomer arrival.

Step 2:

• Once signed up for AO, the newcomer will attend AO for the dates and location assigned.
• During AO, the newcomer will take their driver’s test, turn-in medical paperwork, enroll in TRICARE, and be briefed by supporting departments.
• Newcomers need to bring the following items with them to Area Orientation:
  • 3 copies of orders (stamped copies for civilians)
  • 1 copy of their stateside driver’s license and previous NATO/AFI license (if applicable)
  • 2 copies of the passport photo page (Please, see Sojourner page for more information on what to bring for families)
  • Medical records
  • AO packet

Step 3:

Last part of AO is the ICR trip. Children under 13 are not eligible to attend the Friday AO trip. The family-friendly is held on the last Monday of each month. The newcomer will receive the date, time, and location for these appointments from the AO Coordinators.
