When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Learn more about the different options, benefits and discounts that may be available to you through government housing.
Eligibility
All service members accompanied by family members are eligible for government housing. Effective June 1, 2013, newly arriving families will be directly assigned to government quarters.
Apartments are configured as two-, three-, and four-bedroom units with two bathrooms. All apartments are equipped with central heat and air conditioning, a laundry room with American-style washer and dryer, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a gas oven/range, a refrigerator, cable TV connection and both 110-V and 220-V electric receptacles. Access to the American Forces Network satellite system, DSN telephone service and asymmetric digital subscriber line internet access is available in each unit.
For more information on government quarters, contact the Housing Service Center assignment counselor at DSN 314-629-4466 or 011-39-081-811-4466.
We strongly recommend all sponsors contact the HSC as soon as you know when your sponsee will be arriving. We will be able to provide you information regarding the availability of government quarters at that time. If quarters are available, the sponsor may arrange for a direct move. You will be able to avoid Temporary Lodging Allowance and move into your quarters with delivered loaner furniture.
Single E1-E4 service members will reside in unaccompanied housing upon arrival. If you wish to move into economy housing, you must process a request through your local command for approval subject to the current UH assignment policy.
Single or unaccompanied E-5 and above service members and single or unaccompanied officers should immediately start looking for a place to live on the local economy through the Housing Service Center. E-5 and above enlisted personnel may request to become a resident advisor and reside in UH.
