Legal assistance is available to you and your family. Below, you’ll find information about claims and installation specific programs and services. If you have questions, reach out to the legal assistance program at your installation.
Legal assistance is provided to military members and their families to ensure that legal difficulties do not adversely affect command effectiveness or mission readiness.
Eligibility for Services
Active-duty military members and their spouses, retirees and retiree spouses and former spouses who meet either the 20/20/20 rule (married at least 20 years to the service member and at least 20 years of marriage overlapped 20 years of creditable active or reserve service) or the 20/15/20 rule (married at least 20 years to the service member and at least 15 years of marriage overlapped 20 years of creditable active or reserve service) are eligible for legal services. Reservists must be on active duty orders for over 30 days to be seen for legal assistance services. Orders must be brought into the office prior to legal assistance services being rendered.
Legal Assistance Topics Not Included
Legal assistance does not encompass all legal problems or matters. Legal assistance consists of providing legal advice on a variety of personal and civil legal problems to eligible beneficiaries. The following are some of the topics and legal matters not covered by legal assistance:
Attorneys provide will services at their discretion and based on skill level. Attorneys are not required to draft wills requiring estate planning for tax purposes or that include or require trusts other than simple trusts for the benefit of a minor child. Simple trusts for the benefit of a minor child do not include trusts with benefits conditioned upon any event other than achieving the age of majority. All information received from a client during legal assistance is confidential. It will not be revealed to any third party, including your spouse, supervisor or spouse's supervisor.
There is no Legal Office on Naval Support Activity Panama City. Services mentioned above are available through the Legal Assistance Department at NAS Pensacola. For appointment details, please call 850-452-3733/3734.
Contact the claims department at Pensacola, which is responsible for adjudicating claims for and against the United States under a variety of claims status. The department processes a wide range of different claims, including those for damage to or loss or household goods during a permanent change of station move. Call 850-452-3100. The office hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., except on holidays and weekends, when it is closed.
Legal Service Office hours for Pensacola are Tuesday, 8-11 a.m., and Thursday, 1-4 p.m.; the LSO also takes walk-ins on Tuesdays. Call 850-452-3733 or 850-452-3734 for appointment details.
