Indian Head is served by the Charles County Public Schools. Located south of Washington, D.C., Charles County is considered part of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Charles County has a population of 168,698 and is located in Southern Maryland. Elementary schools are composed of students from prekindergarten to grade five; middle schools have students from sixth to eighth grade; and high schools serve students in grades nine through twelve.

The Charles County Adult Education Program is on The College of Southern Maryland's La Plata Campus. Some of the programs offered are General Education Development® preparation, Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, Citizenship and Civics classes. Also offered is a Maryland High School Diploma through the GED® test. The National Adult External High School Diploma Program is designed for adults 18 and older who have acquired high school level skills through life experiences. The School Liaison Officer for NSA South Potomac is the primary point of contact between the military installation, the local school administration, parents and the community at large. The Navy School Liaison Program works with state department of education and local school districts to ensure school personnel are aware of the stressors on military families brought about by frequent transitions and deployments. The SL provides assistance to military families in education for children in grades K-12, in public, private or home school environments.
