Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events or the installation itself.
Over the past several years, Navy deployments have changed significantly. In response to world events, including war and terrorism, Navy deployments may be longer, more frequent and may involve being in harm’s way. Service members and their families face greater challenges as they prepare for deployment, manage separations, reunite and reintegrate.
Successful deployments do not just happen. They require planning on the part of the sailor, the family and the command. Experience and knowledge of the deployment process has made it possible for the Indian Head Fleet and Family Support Center (IH FFSC) to offer informational programs and support services for military members, civilian personnel and their families. If you are deploying on a ship, with your command, or as an individual, the IH FFSC can provide assistance in the three stages of deployment:
Family Support
The IH FFFSC will assist families of deployed sailors by providing necessary information and practical skills that allow family members to cope with deployment challenges. Contact the IH FFSC by calling 540-653-1839 for more information.
Preparation Before Deployment
There is very little deployment activity at Indian Head, but if you must leave your family behind for any reason, there are some things you need to consider:
The IH FFSC is open every Wednesday from 1000 to 1500. The main office for the IH FFSC is at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren. If you would like assistance, please call at 800-500-4947 or 540-653-1839.
