Air & Space Forces Aid Society

AFAS provides financial assistance to Air Force and Space Force families when unexpected financial emergencies arise with no-interest loans and grants. These financial assistance programs help meet immediate financial emergency needs and help make a positive step toward a lasting financial solution.

Financial Assistance

AFAS financial assistance is intended to help Airmen and Guardians stabilize emergency situations with a substantial financial impact. The process includes establishing a budget for long-term financial stability. Financial assistance can be an interest-free loan, a grant, or a combination of the two.

Educational Support

AFAS education grants, loans and scholarships are available to dependent children or spouses of Airmen and Guardians, both active duty and retired.

Community Programs

AFAS understands the challenges that come with active-duty military life, from deployments to PCSs, and offers targeted community programs to help with such things as child care, car upkeep and spouse employment education.

The American Red Cross office at RAF Lakenheath is located in Building 872 and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For assistance outside these hours, including after-duty hours, weekends and holidays, you can reach an American Red Cross caseworker by calling DSN 226-1855, Commercial +44-1638-521855, or toll-free 877-272-7337.

The RAF Lakenheath Red Cross provides critical communication services by relaying verified urgent messages to service members' command teams stationed worldwide. These emergency messages keep military personnel informed about the death, serious illness or injury of a family member, the birth of a child, or other severe and life-threatening family emergencies. In addition, the American Red Cross offers support during natural disasters and other real-world crises.

The Red Cross also offers a variety of training opportunities, including Adult & Pediatric First Aid, CPR, AED, Basic Life Support, Babysitter's Course, and Instructor's Course for CPR.

For Emergency Medical assistance while traveling - go to the nearest emergency room and then contact Tricare at 1-800-847-2273

Before traveling to the United Kingdom, check in with your TRICARE health benefits advisor at your local base hospital. They will be able to give you a list of military installations with medical services along the route you will take for your PCS.

Do not change any of your TRICARE information until you attend the Newcomers briefing shortly after arriving. The TRICARE office at RAF Lakenheath will gather the information needed to update your account.

Keep a list of numbers (to include your sponsor's work and home contact information) with you while you travel.
