If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.

Incorporated in 1942, Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) is an official charity for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. The mission of AFAS is to provide emergency financial assistance, educational support, and quality of life programs for Airmen, Guardians and their families.
How we Help
Emergency Assistance
When unexpected emergencies arise there is a financial need and help is needed AFAS provides no-interest loans and/or grants to help meet immediate needs and make a positive step towards a lasting financial solution.
Educational Support
Dependent children and spouses of active duty and retired Airmen can work towards their dreams of a college degree with AFAS education grants, loans and scholarships.
Community Programs
AFAS understand the challenges that come with active duty Air Force life from deployments to PCSs and offers targeted community programs to help with such things as child care car upkeep and spouse employment education.

The American Red Cross is located on RAF Lakenheath in Building 872. Office hours are 08:00 - 16:30, Monday through Friday. Access to an American Red Cross caseworker during after duty hours, weekends and holiday can be gained by calling DSN 314-226-1855, Commercial 011-44-1638-521855, or toll-free 877-272-7337.
The RAF Lakenheath Red Cross relays urgent messages containing verified descriptions of an emergency to service members stationed anywhere in the world. Their emergency communications services keep military personnel in touch with their families following the death or serious illness/injury of a family member, the birth of a service member's child or grandchild or when a family faces other serious and life-threatening emergencies. The American Red Cross is also available to support you and your family during times of natural disasters and other real world emergencies.
Training opportunities such as First Aid, CPR, and AED and Babysitter’s courses are provided by the American Red Cross on a regular basis. Volunteer opportunities are also available. The Information and Referral Program's core function is to link individuals and families with the right resources to meet their needs. The RAF Lakenheath Military and Family Readiness Center's I&R program connects service members and their families with available on and off base resources. Before traveling to the United Kingdom, check in with your TRICARE health benefits advisor at your local base hospital. He/she will be able to give you a list of military installations with medical services along the route you will take for your PCS. Make sure you hand carry all pertinent medical records.
Keep a list of numbers (to include your sponsor's work and home contact information) with you while you travel.
Food Pantry
RAF Lakenheath's food pantry is a non-profit organization that operates solely on volunteers and donations. They are open to all Airman and their families of all ranks in the Tri-Base area (RAF Lakenheath, Feltwell and Mildenhall).
The Airmen's food pantry is not designed to take the place of grocery shopping, but to provide items such as: diapers, baby food, dry food goods, and condiments, to help service members in need. They are located at Bldg. 651 and can be contacted via email at RAFLAirmensfoodpantry@gmail.com or through their Facebook page, "RAF Lakenheath Airman's Food Pantry".
