Deployment Support

Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it is important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. For airmen and families assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing (Liberty Wing) and tenant units at RAF Lakenheath, a variety of resources and support programs are available. These range from educational briefings to family support programs designed to ease the stress of deployment, extended TDYs and unaccompanied tours.

The Military and Family Readiness Center serves as the central hub for deployment support, assisting single and married personnel and their families in meeting pre-deployment, sustainment, reintegration and post-deployment challenges.

Core Deployment Services

The M&FRC provides structured support at every phase of the deployment cycle to reduce stress, increase morale and support operational readiness

• Pre-Deployment Briefings: Mandatory briefings conducted by appointment or via mass briefing to help prepare service members and their families for an upcoming deployment or extended TDY. These briefings are a required item on the member's out-processing checklist. Briefings are held every Monday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
• Reunion and Reintegration: Support doesn't end when the deployment is over. Returning members will in-process with the M&FRC. Briefings are held every Monday and Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
• Military and Family Life Counselors: Non-clinical, confidential counseling and referral services are available to help individuals, couples and children navigate the emotional and logistical stresses of family separation.

Family Sustainment and Connection

While the sponsor is deployed, the M&FRC and unit leadership provide ongoing support to families remaining in the RAF Lakenheath community.

• Hearts Apart Event: Monthly activities and events designed for families experiencing a separation of more than 30 days. These events help in assisting families to build a support network.
• Commander’s Key Support Program: Each squadron has assigned KSLs who act as informal liaisons between unit leadership and families. These trained volunteers provide a vital communication link and peer-to-peer support for families during deployments

Child Care and Youth Support

• "Give Parents a Break" Program: Funded by the Air & Space Forces Aid Society, this program provides:
  • Financial Assistance – $40 per dependent child per month (up to 3 months)
  • Provider Flexibility – Funds can be used for any child care option
  • Direct Payment to Families – Approved funds are deposited to member via Zelle or ACH
• Deployment Support Child Care: Additional child care assistance during the deployment cycle is available through the installation's Child Development Center or Family Child Care program.
• Youth Deployment Support Programs: Installation youth centers offer research-based programs that provide a consistent, nurturing environment to help military-connected children and teens build resilience and thrive during a parent's absence.
