Programs and services are available at most installations for children up to age 12. Care may be provided in Child Development Centers, School Age Care Programs, and Family Child Care Homes. The Family Child Care (FCC) Home Program offers home-based childcare in licensed homes for children ages six weeks through twelve years. These self-employed providers operate their home independently in compliance with strict Air Force policies, including frequent inspections and close monitoring by the Family Child Care Coordinator. Extensive background screening and orientation training must be completed prior to licensing. Full time, part time, hourly, weekends and extended hours care are available for school age children.

The RAF Lakenheath Child Development Centers (CDC) offer an outstanding developmental program for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
The CDC's curriculum is based on the belief that children learn best by doing, actively thinking and experimenting through purposeful play in a planned environment. It is designed to provide experiences in language, mathematics, motor skills, creativity and social and emotional growth. The program also offers well-balanced, child-oriented meals.
Availability
Members desiring permanent long-term care will need to put their child's name on the waitlist. Wait times vary between 0-12 months.

Costs
Fees are subsidized with Appropriated Funds. Families are placed in one of nine fee categories, based on total family income. Families will be asked to provide their most recent Leave and Earning statement(s) and/or pay stubs. In accordance with federal guidelines, BAH and in-kind equivalent (Also BAS) are added together with earnings to determine the fee category. Fees are reviewed annually in the Fall and range from $59.00- $147.00 per week.
Programs Offered
RAF Lakenheath offers a number of other child care options for parents seeking care.
Hourly Child Care Program --In addition to full time weekly care, hourly care is also available at a rate of $4.00 per hour. To make an advanced reservation, you must supply a copy of the child's immunization records and a completed form AF Form 1181, Air Force Youth Flight Program Patron Registration. Children are accepted from 6 weeks to 5 years of age.
The Before and After School Program (BASP) offered by the Youth Center, provides care for school age children of working parents. The program opens at 6:45 a.m. and closes at 5:15 p.m. The BASP staff ensures the youth arrive to school on time and will then collect the youth after school. The goal of the BASP is to provide a structured developmental program that is safe, healthy and fun for the children. All activities are planned as an addition to the child's education, with an emphasis on enhancing social, academic and leisure time skills.
