Legal Assistance

Shaw Air Force Base offers legal assistance to active-duty members, retirees, dependents, and National Guard or Reserve members on Title 10 Orders.

Types of Services

The legal office can provide assistance with:

• Power of attorneys
• Notary service
• Basic will
• Living will
• Health care power of attorneys
• Referrals for other legal matters
• General Information on other legal matters (i.e. bankruptcy, Service Members Civil Relief Act, simple divorce, child custody, immigration, landlord-tenant issues, etc.)

*Prior to scheduling a will or power of attorney appointment please visit the Air Force legal assistance website to complete a legal worksheet. After completing the worksheet, please retain the ticket number in order to schedule an appointment.

*An Air Force legal assistance attorney cannot represent members in court, or in an administrative hearing.

All household goods claims are now processed through the Air Force claims service center.

To process a claim, please follow the following steps:

• If you moved with the web-based Defense Personal Property System and your pickup date was May 14, 2020 or earlier, file your loss/damage report directly with your carrier on the Move.mil website within 75 days after delivery.
• If your pickup date was May 15, 2020 or later, you have 180 days to submit your loss/damage report. File your claim within nine months directly with the carrier to get full replacement value.
• After nine months, but not later than two years from delivery, you can file with either the carrier or the AFCSC. If you file after nine months but within 2 years, you may only be reimbursed for depreciated replacement costs.
