The Air Force Library Program offers resources for airmen, guardians, and their families in all locations and military stages.

Installation libraries play an important role in Air Force and Space Force professional life. They offer technical publications to support job requirements and opportunities for career development. You can earn college degrees and certifications, update promotion packages, prepare for transition or retirement, and more. Many resources are available online through the Air Force website.

Installation libraries also offer community programs such as story times and summer reading programs. There are author and book talks, as well as events to celebrate holidays and Air Force and Space Force heritage events. Most libraries also offer access to computers, internet, and basic office equipment like copiers and faxing services. Programs and services vary by location, so contact your local installation library for more information.

All Defense Department service members and their families can also use the online DOD MWR Libraries. The online libraries provide an array of resources for children and adults. The McElveen Library seeks to provide quality service to all patrons.  Its goal is to provide a safe, studious, and pleasant environment conducive to lifelong learning.

The Library features:

• State-of-the-art computer and reference lab areas, complete with 54 desktop computers
• Complimentary wireless network for use with personal laptops
• Children’s area consisting of an extensive collection of easy, fiction, and nonfiction books, graphic novels, interactive audiobook station, and an arts and crafts area
• Four flat screen televisions complete with Time Warner cable access (e.g. CNN, MSN, etc.), and Shaw AFB events
• Several reading lounges
• Activity/conference room complete with overhead projection and net meeting capabilities
• Private Study room for individual quiet area or for group meetings, complete with flat screen TV
• General (fiction, nonfiction) and reference collection of materials
• Special interest area collections, such as Graphic Novels and CSAF Reading Lists

The McElveen Library is committed to providing quality programs and facilities for the youth of Shaw AFB. Kids World consists of an extensive collection of easy, fiction, and nonfiction books, graphic novels, and an arts and craft area.  The Young Adult section features a collection of young adult fiction/nonfiction materials, graphic novels, study tables, and two gaming computers, each with an Xbox and internet access.

Story time -- Participate in an exciting story and activity time! Join us every Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Fun Friday (all ages) -- Everyone is welcome! Movies, crafts and cooking are just a few of the activities we will enjoy!! Come hear us spin a tale every Friday at 4 p.m.

STEAM Saturday (elementary age) – Explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math the third Saturday of the month at 10:30.

Teen Nite (ages 12 – 17) – Meet at the library for fun crafts, activities, games, and movies.

Hours of operation:

Monday Thursday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Friday 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
