Government Housing Overview

When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Learn more about the different options, benefits and discounts that may be available to you through government housing.

Currently, there are 2,210 homes and apartment units for married and bachelor personnel stationed at Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Guard Combat Center. These units are spread out over 10 family housing areas located aboard the Combat Center and in the Twentynine Palms community. Married personnel arriving at Twentynine Palms for permanent duty should report to the family housing welcome center prior to executing any commitment of private or commercial rental agreement. Privatization

Liberty Property Company provides property management for Military Family Housing aboard Twentynine Palms.

Eligibility

All officer and enlisted personnel accompanied by their family members are eligible to apply for MFH.

Availability

The wait times for MFH vary depending on rank and number of dependents. The summer months are usually very busy and wait times in those months can vary greatly compared to other times of the year.

Approximate wait times for MFH are as follows:

  • Junior enlisted two-bedroom: 90 days
  • Junior enlisted three-bedroom: 30-60 days
  • Noncommissioned officer two-bedroom: three to four months
  • NCO three-bedroom: nine-plus months
  • NCO four-bedroom: 12 months
  • Staff NCO two-bedroom: up to 30 days
  • Staff NCO three- and four-bedroom: 90-plus days
  • Staff NCO five-bedroom: six to 10 months
  • Company grade three- and four-bedroom: up to 30 days
  • Field grade three- and four-bedroom: five to 12 months
  • Senior grade four-bedroom: 10 months

Application

You will need the following in order to apply for on-base housing:

  • DD Form 1746 (Application for Assignment to Housing)
  • A copy of orders showing your detachment date
  • Certification of family members. Examples include those individuals listed on an emergency data application (page 2), Navy Personnel Command Form 1070/602 or Navy Comptroller Form 3072, Dependency Action Status; a record of emergency data or DD DD1172, Application for Uniformed Services Identification card or Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System enrollment.

Bachelor housing is available to single, active-duty service members and geographical bachelors. All bachelor housing is controlled by the commands. You will be assigned to bachelor housing when you check in to your new unit.  You are also welcome to call them at 760-830-8295 / 7375.
