Eligibility
All personnel with command-sponsored family members on a 36-month tour are eligible for government quarters. The eligibility date is based on the date they departed the last permanent major command. Sponsors arriving from a dependent-restricted tour may be credited up to 14 months. Some special situations may require further clarification.
Only active-duty military and their command-sponsored dependents are eligible for government-owned, built-to-lease facilities. All civilian personnel are eligible for private rental only. Government quarters wait lists are based on rank and the number of accompanying family members. Children are authorized a bedroom each, regardless of age or sex; however, four-bedroom quarters are the largest we have available. The wait time is based on grade and bedroom category, and is subject to change.
Availability

Temporary Lodging
The Sunrise Lodge provides guest house services at Hohenfels. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance for official travelers. Others can make three-day advance reservations. All reservations must be guaranteed with advance payment.
Reporting Requirements
Personnel on a 36-month tour with command-sponsored family members are required to in-process with Government Housing. On day one of in-processing, the Central Processing Facility will provide you with an appointment to in-process housing. This is usually on day two of your in-processing schedule.
Voltage
Voltage in government quarters varies: Some units have 110 volt, some have 220 volt and some have a combination of the two. Transformers are available in the Post Exchange, but they can be expensive. They are also available at your installation Thrift Shop at a reduced price and are often advertised in the post newspaper. Check appliances to see if they are dual voltage. If so, all that is required is an inexpensive adapter plug. If not, it is often less expensive to purchase an item new or used than to purchase a transformer to use the one you have.
Single Service Member Housing
Bachelor officers and senior enlisted personnel must in-process with housing as scheduled by the Central In-processing Center, also on day two of your in-processing schedule. Members in grades E-1 through E-6 will be referred to their respective units for dormitory-type housing until the First Sergeant's Barracks Initiative is implemented. After FSBI is in effect, members in grades E-1 through E-6 will also in-process with Housing.

It is German law that you must have a trash can or Dumpster at your home, and you must use it. Refuse cannot be taken across county lines. Recyclable materials such as glass, plastic and paper may be brought on post to the Sort or Recycle Trash facility or deposited in your local area's igloos or recycling center. Household hazardous materials must be brought on post to the Self Help Store (Building 742) or to the sorting center behind Building 25. Recycling is mandatory in Germany and noncompliance results in heavy fines.
