It’s likely that employment will change when a move occurs, especially for military spouses. The information below will provide you with employment assistance information and resources available such as SECO, MyCAA and MSEP Portals.
The Daegu community is very small and employment opportunities are limited. Due to the status of forces agreement, many jobs are held by permanent local nationals. Military spouses and family members are given employment preference when applicable – as long as they meet the required education and experience prerequisites for these positions. Jobs are found both in the appropriated fund and nonappropriated fund market. Area IV contractors also offer the occasional employment opportunity.
To be prepared to start working, you should carry the following items with you to Korea:
The Army Community Service Employment Readiness Program’s goal is to provide information and services regarding employment and career assessments to military spouses, civilians, service members and family members. We offer a variety of services to include resume writing, mock interviews, career planning and classes on the federal hiring process. We also provide career counseling, a resource library and have computers available for your use. It is a good idea to maintain a positive attitude and consider building or maintaining skills through volunteer service while you search for employment.
Soldiers and civilians will in-process through their unit and attend Newcomers or Civilian Orientation. Family members are invited to attend Spouse Orientation. Spouses or family members who are currently federal employees should consult their servicing Civilian Personnel Advisory Center about their options for teleworking or leave without pay.
When transitioning out of Korea, a spouse can register for the Priority Placement Program or go on leave without pay during the move and then link up with the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center at their new duty station upon arrival.
Tuition Assistance may be available through the My Career Advancement Account Scholarship program, GoArmyEd and other scholarships. Visit the Education Center for assistance on getting started in using the Tuition Assistance Program.
