Programs and services are available at most installations for children up to age 12. Care may be provided in Child Development Centers, School Age Care Programs, and Family Child Care Homes. Throughout Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs you will find competent, trained and caring people working with your children. Our CYS caregivers and Family Child Care (FCC) providers are trained on a continuous basis in child development, health, safety and early childhood education. Management and early childhood professionals are trained in childcare administration. CYS staff are all here to provide your child with an on-going, creative and developmental learning program and look forward to establishing a partnership with your Family in meeting your childcare needs.
All CYS programs are certified by the Department of Defense (DoD) and have been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) or the Council on Accreditation (COA). School age and youth programs are affiliated with 4-H and Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Child & Youth Services (CYS) in Baumholder assists parents in finding childcare for children six weeks old to fifth grade. The Parent Central Services Office offers resources and referral services.
They can assist in finding on and off post childcare options to meet each Families individual childcare needs.

Family Child Care (FCC) is offered in government quarters as an alternative and supplement to center-based care. Baumholder FCC Providers provide quality care for children four weeks through twelve years of age. FCC providers are certified and offer a variety of services including nighttime care, extended care (overnight and weekends) and specialized care for children with special needs. Prior to certification, the home must meet the fire, safety, health, and home inspection standards. All members of the family over the age of twelve must also pass extensive background checks. After certification, all providers must follow FCC standards to ensure the home is a safe environment for children. Proponents from fire, safety, health, and complete FCC inspections throughout the year. FCC homes provide quality services that are equivalent to that which is available in CYS centers. FCC providers receive extensive training and are constantly monitored to ensure compliance with Army Regulation.
USAG Rheinland-Pfalz, Baumholder Child & Youth Services (CYS) has two Child Development Centers (CDC). One located on Wetzel Kaserne and one located on Smith Barracks. CDC offer full-day, part-day and hourly care programs. Registration is required with Parent Central Services before using care at a CDC. Reservations may be made for hourly care, though there may be spaces available on the same day. To utilize full-day or part day programs, you must first visit militarychildcare.com and make a request for care.

School Age Center (SAC) offers before and after school care for children in first through fifth grades during the school year. Before school care is offered from 6 a.m. until school starts, and after school care is offered from after school until 6 p.m. Transportation is provided to and from Smith Elementary School to the School Age Center. On school out days and during summer break, the SAC is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students may sign up for SAC summer camp on a week-by-week basis. The SAC also provides hourly care on a space available basis. Occasional users are authorized four free hours per month of open recreation time at SAC in one-hour increments on a space available basis. Occasional users are children who are not enrolled in regularly scheduled programs (before and/or after school care, hourly care.) All children using SAC must be registered with Parent Central Services. Youth Sports & Fitness is the Army's little league. Sports include Football, Soccer, Cheerleading, Basketball, Baseball, Wrestling, Track & Field and more! Start Smart Sports Development programs are available for children as young as three. A current Sports Physical is required to sign up for all sports programs, and a fee will be charged. The Youth Center is located within walking distance from the Baumholder Middle/High School and is available to youth in grades six through twelfth. The Youth Center offers activities such as: arts & crafts, sports, clubs, computer lab, dances, lock-ins and community service volunteer opportunities. Registrations is free and there are no charges to use the Middle School Teen (MST) programs after school, though fees may be charged for extracurricular activities, such as field trips and dances. School of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills (SKIES).
SKIES offers instructional classes in the schools of arts, education, sports and life skills. These include classes such as dance, gymnastics, martial arts, tutoring, swimming and more. There is a fee to participate.
Registration with CYS is required in order for you to utilize any CYS Services. In order to enroll in CYS parents must provide the following information: valid Military ID card, up-to-date shot records, two names and phone numbers for emergency notification, health assessment, current Leave and Earning Statement, Family care plan designee (single or dual military) and Medical Action Plans (as needed).
Registration is free and can be done by appointment or walk-in at Parent Central Services.
