When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Waiting period for housing is determined by your rank, number of dependents, and where you work.
Single Service Member Housing
Per MCIPAC-MCBBul 11101, Unaccompanied E6-E7, W1-W3, and O1-O3 will only be authorize to reside off-base when the CMC-directed 95% occupancy rate for their respective adequate government housing BH category has been achieved. Personnel will be provided adequate government BH at the camp/station within a reasonable commuting distance.
Unaccompanied E-8-E9, W4-W5, O4 and above, may decline assignment to BH at any time and elect to reside off-base, however, if drawing basic allowing for housing for dependents at the last permanent duty station, the member will not be entitled to Family Separation Housing-Overseas Housing Allowance.
