Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events or the installation itself.
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base’s Airman and Family Readiness Center has a great program for all deployed personnel, their spouses and their family members. Several programs are available to assist in keeping deployed members focused on the mission and maintaining life for their families while they are away.
Hearts Apart
Monthly scheduled activities like bowling, picnics and miniature golf for family members whose sponsors are on temporary duty assignment (180 days), deployed or on a remote/unaccompanied assignment. Hearts Apart is open to all military families. Please email 355FSS.FSH.AFRC@us.af.mil for upcoming events.
Morale calls
Morale calls are ones that spouses and family members can make from home. Six calls at 20 minutes each per month are allowed for families of members deployed or on remote assignment.
Computers and support
Computers and a fax machine are available at the A&FRC for deployed family members to use.
Free deployed family dining
This program allows families of deployed or remote Airmen to enjoy a free meal (typically dinner time) once per month. Please email 355FSS.FSH.AFRC@us.af.mil for the dinning schedule.
Hearts Apart newsletter
Keep current with what is happening around the base. The newsletter is published monthly. Please email 355FSS.FSH.AFRC@us.af.mil to get on the deployed families email distro list.
Car Care Because We Care
The Air Force Aid Society provides family members with one free oil change for the primary family car during the member’s deployment period (30 days or more). Deployment orders required.
Give Parents a Break
The AFAS provides free child care for four hours; dates vary each month for family members whose sponsor is deployed (check with the CDC for dates 520-228-3336). Deployment orders required.
Deployment care program
Leaving for a deployment entitles you to 16 hours per child before, during and after deployment. Contact the 355th Force Support Squadron Family Child Care program at 228-2201 for more information.
Deployment, return and reunion brochures
Brochures are available for most deployment situations. Literature on issues that may be encountered upon return for military moms, dads, children, spouses and single members are among those available.
Help with yard work
Need help with your yard work while your loved one is away? The Readiness Team can get in touch with volunteers to come out and help. Contact them at 520-228-5690 for more information.
