When you arrive at your new installation, you’ll need to follow installation-specific procedures. Each installation and service handles in-processing differently. Here, you can find installation-specific guidelines and a list of documents to bring with you when checking- in. Reach out to the contacts provided if you have specific questions.
Your first stop is your unit Commander Support Staff. Your CSS will process all gain actions. Please bring your PCS package from your last base. If you arrive after duty hours, your 24-hour arrival point for area information and welcome is the Base Lodging Office, building 5602, High Desert Inn, 661-275-7666, DSN 312-575-7666.

Newcomers Orientation and Informational Briefs for Active-Duty, DOD Civilian, and Family Members
The Newcomers Orientation and Informational Brief welcome all military, DOD Civilian and their spouses to Edwards Air Force Base. It is conducted every first Thursday of each month at Club Muroc, Building 5600. This half-day session includes orientation style briefings from senior leadership and community agencies along with a bus tour (mandatory for military members and voluntary for DOD Civilians and families). Sponsor’s Role
Upon notification of your PCS, you should be assigned a sponsor from your gaining unit to assist you with your relocation. The sponsor’s role is to provide you the necessary resources pertaining to your relocation and minimize stress level that comes along with the move. An effective sponsor is the key to a successful relocation. To request a sponsor, call your gaining CSS or the Military Personnel Flight at 661-277-4281 or DSN 312-527-4281.
Please bring copies of your PCS orders & PCS out-processing package from your previous CSS or MPF to your in-processing appointment with your CSS. If you are to take leave en route to your PCS for house hunting (if applicable), ensure that you submit a proper leave request with your command’s approval reflected on your leave paperwork. With proper documentation on your leave paperwork, you will be able to minimize unnecessary delays in processing your financial claims and personnel issues.
Temporary Lodging Reservations
Make reservations as soon as possible once you have your travel dates by calling the High Desert Inn at 661-275-7666 or DSN 312-525-7666. The High Desert Inn is open 24/7 including holidays.
If you get married prior to your PCS, you must update your DEERS information and add your spouse to your orders prior to PCS. Contact your local MPF DEERs Office. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you haven't followed proper procedures. If you get married en route, you will need to contact the gaining MPF DEERs office to add your spouse to your DEERs records and to get your orders amended.
