Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
If you're planning on staying at Privatized Housing contact Mayroad for more information on their pet policy's. No pets will be left unattended in motor vehicles. There are limited pet-friendly rooms available at the High Desert Inn. Dogs and cats are not allowed in the dormitories. Breeding or abandoning animals on Edwards is prohibited.
The Transportation Management Office does not authorize service members’ pet(s) to be shipped. Costs of transporting pets are at owner's expense. Please check with your TMO and/or local veterinary clinic for transporting pets.
Inbound personnel to Edwards traveling with pets must ensure that their pet’s immunization records are current. Pet owners should check with the veterinary clinic and the Transportation Management Office at their current base, as well as with the airport that they are using for other pertinent pet travel requirements.
New Reimbursement Available for Pet Transportation Costs
Effective February 21, 2025, service members who are unable to take their pet to their next permanent duty station may be authorized reimbursement for the cost of pet transportation to an alternative location or designated place.

To be eligible for reimbursement, travelers must follow all pet import and export rules and, if directed and available, use government transportation for overseas moves. If government transportation is unavailable, the traveler will need a note from the Traffic Management Office or Installation Transportation Office for reimbursement. A note is not required for travelers traveling by privately-owned vehicle.
Pet restrictions
Two pets may accompany you on one of our Pet TLFs. Advance approval from management is required for a third pet. There is a nightly pet fee of $10 that is automatically assessed to your nightly room rate. You must present your pets’ current shot records at the time you check into your unit. Pets are not authorized in any room other than pet TLF. If it’s found that a pet has been kept in a non-pet unit, you will be asked to leave immediately.
Special needs
Contact the High Desert Inn at DSN 312-525-7666 or commercial 661-275-7666 as far as possible to arrange for temporary quarters. The inn is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For members who have families and who have not been assigned permanent housing, there are two- and four-bedroom apartment-type quarters. There are also a limited number of four-bedroom units. The units have cooking facilities, a queen-size bed and a twin-size bed in the bedrooms, and a couch that converts to a double bed and a chair that converts into a single bed in the living room. For families with pets, there are 17 designated pet units.
