If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
Air Force Aid Society emergency assistance is provided to airmen and their eligible family members to meet immediate needs in an emergency. The Society provides interest free loans and grants based on the individual situation. Whether the emergency is a death in the family, a car repair, an unexpected dental bill or a basic living expense, AFAS is here to help in your time of need. To apply for Air Force Aid Society aid, please 1. Visit: https://portal.afas.org/ea-eligibility/. **If you have haven't applied for assistance before you will need to register and then sign in**. YOU MUST USE A PERSONAL EMAIL WHEN APPLYING FOR ASSISTANCE! 2. Already started an application? To continue working on it visit:https://portal.afas.org/my-applications/ 3. Complete all sections of the application and upload all necessary documents (See your First Sergeant or the Military & Family Readiness web page for required documents (look under the AFAS tab). 4. You will receive a verification email from AFAS Headquarters. Your application will be assigned to a case worker and will be worked as soon as possible. Make sure to answer phone calls from 703 or 571 area codes as it may be regarding yourrequest for assistance. Planning for Emergencies
For an emergency while en route to Edwards Air Force Base, contact the nearest military installation, or the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767, and Air Force Aid at 877-272-7337.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross provides services to the military, veterans, and their families; disaster preparedness and relief, health and safety education and training, youth programs, blood drives and community networking. The Antelope Valley Chapter covers 4300 square miles, encompassing 40 percent of Los Angeles County and 50 percent of Kern County in Southern California. This area includes the military installations of Edwards AFB, China Lake Naval Weapons Center, and Air Force Plant 42. Contact phone number is 661-267-0650.
Information and Referral
One of the Military and Family Readiness Center’s core services is Information and Referral. Salvation Army
