Each installation provides information about the types of schools and programs offered on or near your installation for your child. Students attending schools off-post typically attend schools in the following counties: Cumberland County, Harnett County, Hoke County, or Moore County.
Cumberland County: Cumberland County Schools' mission is to provide a safe, positive, and rigorous learning environment to prepare lifelong learners to reach their maximum potential. Serving nearly 50,000 students at 86 schools, Cumberland County School System is focused on meeting students' diverse learning needs. Their fully accredited school system has a diverse student population representing more than 75 different countries and 118 different native languages. More than 14,000 CCS students are military/federally connected. Please call the County Public School Offices to ask which school your children will attend and the specific enrollment requirements for that school.
Requirements vary, depending on the area in which you reside. Bus service is provided free of charge.
Enrollment Requirements
Prior to registration, it is advised to confirm with the school that all requirements have been met. Usual requirements are birth certificate or equivalent, legal proof of residence, and verification of physical examination within the past twelve months. Proof of immunization is also required. Harnett County: Harnett County Schools' 9 Core Values are Integrity, Accountability, Perseverance, Collaboration, Dedication, Relationships, Initiative, Adaptability, and Inclusivity. There are 27 schools in the district serving areas including Lillington, Spring Lake, and Dunn. Harnett County Schools offers a Military Families Liaison Program and a is recognized as a North Carolina Purple Star School for the districts support of military children.

Hoke County: Hoke County Schools serves 8,618 students in grades kindergarten -12th grade at the districts 14 schools. Moore County: “Moore County Schools will graduate students with the skills, knowledge, character, critical thinking, and education needed to become proud and successful Americans.” is the Mission Statement for Moore County Schools. There are 24 schools within the district and 13,017 students enrolled in grades kindergarten - 12th grade. Moore County serves residents in areas including Southern Pines, Cameron, Pinehurst, and Carthage. Moore County Schools are recognized with the North Carolina Purple Star designation.
The Fort Bragg Community is part of the DoDEA Americas Mid-Atlantic District. We have a total of 9 schools to serve students living on post in Pre-K through grade 8.
Registering for a DoDEA School using DSIS
DoDEA Student Information System (DSIS) online registration is currently available for families registering in schools serviced by Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). DSIS online registration reduces manual forms and makes it easy for parents to register their child for school.
DoDEA parents are also required to annually re-register their student(s). Schools will notify parents when it is time to re-register their students. During this process, parents will be able to update contact information, update Sponsor’s employment status, and indicate whether their student will return for the upcoming school year.
DoDEA recommends completing the online registration process using a desktop or laptop computer. The online registration process may not work on a mobile device.
Only Families that reside on the installation or will reside on the installation within 90 school days are approved to attend Fort Bragg Schools. Students of military retirees living on the installation cannot attend schools on Fort Bragg. Students of civilian employees living on post (NAF: Non-Appropriated Fund and GS: General Schedule) can attend Fort Bragg Schools.
The Fort Bragg School System is composed of two primary schools (pre-kindergarten - 1st grade), one intermediate school (2nd – 5th grades), five elementary schools (pre-kindergarten – 5th grades), and two middle schools (6th - 8th grades). High school aged students attend high schools in Cumberland or Harnett Counties. Each school is under the direction of Fort Bragg School system is fully accredited by ADvancED.
Special Education
One of the most unique aspects of Fort Bragg Schools is the work done with special needs children. The Special Education Program offers a full continuum of services to include consultation, inclusion, resource rooms, self-contained classes, and homebound instruction.
Eligible students receive services from Speech/Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Psychologists. An extended school year is available to students who demonstrate significant regression and recoupment issues.
Fort Bragg School Board
Fort Bragg Schools is under the direction of the North Carolina District Superintendent and a school board that serves in an advisory capacity. Board meetings are generally held monthly (except for July and August). The meetings are open to the public and parents are invited to attend.
Volunteers provide services and are also offered opportunity to learn first-hand about excellent programs in the schools. For more information about volunteering contact a school principal nearest you.
School Liaison Services (SLS)
The SLS is located on the 6th Floor of the Soldier Support Center (Normandy Dr. Bldg. 4-2843) and can be reached by calling 910-396-3338 or toll free 866-567-5899 for the School Liaison Office. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Please be sure to bring a copy of the following information to the school when registering: Birth Certificate, Immunization Records, Record Proof of Residence on Fort Bragg, Social Security Number, Report Card (for the beginning of the year if student was promoted), Current Standardized Test Scores, Special Program Paperwork (Academically Gifted, English Language, etc).
