Availability
Housing on Fort Hamilton is excellent, newly built and/or remodeled and is contracted through Balfour Beatty Communities (BBC). The wait for military housing is usually very short--as little as a day or two after arrival at Fort Hamilton. BBC can be contacted at 718-333-5815, and this is the POC for applying to the housing list.
BBC does not accept advance applications for family housing. However, eligibility dates for quarters assignment are backdated to the detachment date from your last duty station, provided application for housing is made within 30 days of arrival to Fort Hamilton. In-processing soldiers will be asked to provide a copy of orders and any supporting documentation (leave form, marriage certificate, birth certificates of dependents and termination of government quarters, if applicable).
Balfour Beatty Communities oversees a newly constructed housing area which includes six historic residences on Colonel's Row, seventy modern townhouses (officers and senior NCOs), sixty older style high-rise apartments, and one hundred and fifty new three and four bedroom apartments. The housing area also includes five modern playground areas, a walking and fitness trail, and plenty of parking--a very scarce commodity in Brooklyn! Additionally, there is a small government housing complex, the Mitchell Complex, located in Nassau Country, Long Island, which is used primarily by recruiters stationed in that area. Mitchell Complex is also managed by Balfour Beatty Communities.
