Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
If you plan to live off base, you are required to have a license for your dog from that county or borough. A current rabies certificate is needed and cost varies depending if the animal is intact or spayed/neutered.

Rabies certificate must be within 1 year and no less than 30 days prior to entry. Lyme vaccine for dogs is encouraged due to high occurrence of disease.

Government Housing
Check with the Government Housing Office regarding the policy for pets residing in government quarters. Military member's pet residing in Balfour Beatty housing are required to have rabies vaccinations annually. Dogs and cats can be vaccinated against rabies at 12 weeks of age.
There are no kennels or boarding facilities on Fort Hamilton. Please make advanced reservations for pet boarding as soon as you know your arrival date. Most facilities require proof of current vaccinations. Cost varies and is usually determined by type of pet (dog or cat) and size (body weight).
There are no veterinary services on post, however there are several veterinarians in the Fort Hamilton area.

Quarantines
Military member's pets residing on the installation are required to have rabies vaccinations annually. Dogs and cats can be vaccinated against rabies at 12 weeks of age.
