Each installation provides information about the types of schools and programs offered on or near your installation for your child. Learn about the types of programs, guidelines and requirements for each school. Whether you choose to send your child to a Department of Defense School, a private school or public school, your installation can help you explore all of your options to make the right decision for you and your child.
Fort Leavenworth residents are zoned to attend Fort Leavenworth USD 207 through grade nine. Fort Leavenworth schools are a part of the Kansas State Department of Education, which boast a fine reputation. As a coterminous district, USD 207 operates three elementary schools and one junior high school. All four schools are accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education and Patton Junior High School is also accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Schools. (www.usd207.org)
-For a student to attend USD 207's Pre-Kindergarten, the student must be a resident of Fort Leavenworth for the duration of the school year.
-Fort Leavenworth schools offer all-day kindergarten at all three of their elementary schools. Parents will have the option of picking up their kindergartener after a half day of school or they can have them enrolled for the full day kindergarten.
-Fort Leavenworth residents are zoned to attend Leavenworth High School (Leavenworth USD 453) for grades ten through twelve.
-Fort Leavenworth USD 207 provides transportation to all students who live beyond a reasonable walking distance from the school they are attending. The State of Kansas requires a school district to transport those students who reside two and one half miles or more from their attendance center. Fort Leavenworth USD 207 also provides bus transportation to and from Leavenworth High School for on-post residents in grades ten through twelve.
Before and After School Care for students of USD 207 enrolled in kindergarten through grade five is provided by Child and Youth Services at Osage School Age Center. If you require care, it is recommended that a request for care is submitted through www.militarychildcare.com prior to arrival to be placed on the waitlist.
After School Programming for students of USD 207 in grades six through nine and Leavenworth High School in grades nine through twelve is available through Child and Youth Services at Harrold Youth Center at no cost with transportation provided. Care is available on specified USD 207 non-school days for a fee. (Transportation is also provided to the Harrold Youth Center for students in grades six through twelve after school that are enrolled in Richard Warren Middle School, Lansing Middle School, and Lansing High School.)
Families may choose to live off the installation and attend schools in their zoned district. A number of public school options are available in both Kansas and Missouri. Military Families may choose to home school their children. Fort Leavenworth has an active community of home schooling families. An annual Home School Meet and Greet is held in August to allow families the opportunity to meet one another and gain information about local resources/co-ops.
-In the state of Kansas, home school families must register the name of their home school with the State Department of Education as a Non-Accredited Private School. Required forms and guidance can be found on the KSDE website (www.ksde.org) under the topic 'Home Schools'.
-In the state of Missouri, the State Department of Education does not regulate or monitor home schooling. For current guidance, refer to Missouri State Statute 167.031 and 167.042 for record keeping, hours of instruction, and declaration options.
-Leavenworth USD 453 offers a state accredited virtual school for grades K-8. Leavenworth Virtual School is a free internet-based school that utilizes Calvert Learning Curriculum. Enrollment is open through September 1 or each year and can be completed online.

The Army Continuing Education Services (ACES) aims to improve readiness of the total army by providing quality educational programs and services that support the professional and personal development of Service Members, adult Family Members, and Army Civilians.
The Education Center provides education counseling and scholarship information. The classrooms and multi-use learning facility is open Monday-Friday, 0730-1615. (No reservations required!)
