Residing in on-post housing is voluntary, not mandatory, except for personnel assigned to Key and Essential Positions as designated by the Installation Commander.
On-Post family housing is privatized and managed by Frontier Heritage Communities. All military personnel assigned to Fort Leavenworth with dependents are eligible to apply for on post housing. You may apply in advance of your arrival by going to Frontier Heritage Communities online. Fax the application to 913-758-1779. The service member's report date determines position on waiting lists.
Pets
A maximum of 4 pets (dogs or cats) in any combination is authorized per household. A pet deposit of $200 per pet for the first two pets is required. Aggressive or potentially aggressive breeds of dogs are defined as Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, English Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, Chows, wolf hybrids, and crosses of these breeds are not allowed in Fort Leavenworth Family Housing.Exceptional Family Member HousingFrontier Heritage Communities have ADA approved homes and will work to accommodate families with medical housing necessities.Off-Post HousingAll Soldiers reporting to Fort Leavenworth are required to report to the Housing Services Office (HSO) located in the Resiliency Center at 600 Thomas Avenue in the south side basement enterance. You may contact HSO by calling 913-684-5681/3052.Housing Services Office--The HSO is your contact for finding off-post housing when you arrive along with any problems you may encounter such as discrimination complaints, tenant/landlord disputes, or any questions or problems about off-post housing. The HSO will provide you a list of rentals and give you information regarding the communities in which the rentals are located.Rental OptionsAll renters should carry renters insurance against fire, theft and other damages. The property owner's insurance will cover the property but not the renter's personal property.Your point of contact for any questions you may have concerning off-post housing is Housing Services Office (HSO), 913-684-5681/3052.The following information is to assist military Families who will be renting a home in the off-post communities surrounding Fort Leavenworth.The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act allows you to break your lease by giving a proper 30-day notice upon the receipt of PCS Orders of Deployment Orders fo a period of more than 90 days.Caution: Accepting on-post housing is not justification to break a lease or rental agreement.To protect yourself as well as the landlord together you should perform a walk-through of the property upon move in and again when you move out. This needs to be signed by both parties and each should get a copy.Be sure you read all documents that you sign very carefully. Remember, once you have signed the lease, you have entered into a legal contract. The landlord is the only one who can let you out of the lease unless the landlord is negligent in his part of the contract. Verbal agreements will not stand up in court. All agreements must be written and Acknowledged by both parties.Get a receipt for all money paid with each item listed separately. Make sure you get a copy of the rental agreement and anything else you might have signed.Purchase OptionsHousing Services Office (HSO) wants to take the fear out of buying a home. That is why the garrison offers free home buyer seminars. These seminars are for our Soldiers, their Families and civilian employees to inform them of the procedures for selecting a qualified real estate agent and applying for a loan. Lending professionals walk potential home buyers through the credit approval process, escrow procedures and closing costs.
