When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Government family quarters on Fort Leavenworth include multiplexes, duplexes and eightplexes. There are very few single family dwellings. Most windows come equipped with shades. All family quarters are unfurnished except for a range and refrigerator. Some permanent party and students' kitchens have a dishwasher and/or garbage disposal. All units have a washer and dryer electric hookup. No gas dryer hookups. 220-volt outlets are installed. All units have air-conditioning and forced air heat/chilled water system. Some units have garages or carports, others do not. Approximate square footage does not include basement or attic area.
Eligibility
All military personnel assigned to Fort Leavenworth with legal dependents residing with them on a permanent basis (180 days required for joint custody situations) are eligible for assignment to on-post family housing.
Availability
The Fort Leavenworth Housing Division manages 1,580 Government-owned, on-post family units. Of these, 399 units are officers quarters, 603 are Command and General Staff College (CGSC) student quarters and 578 are enlisted quarters. There are 20 housing areas and 12 waiting lists for on-post housing.
Waiting time for family quarters may change significantly due to uncontrollable events and summer turnover. Please call Housing for a more realistic waiting period.
Application
You may apply for on-post housing in advance of your arrival at Fort Leavenworth provided you forward all required documents to include Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders; DA Form 31 (Request and Authority for Leave); DA Form 137 (Installation Clearance Record) and DD1746 (Application for Assignment to Housing). Your eligibility date can be no earlier than your sign-out date from your last permanent duty station, and you must sign-in at this installation before Government quarters can be assigned.
CGSOC Student Family Housing
Student family quarters vary in styles. Quarters information is provided in the CGSC Circular 350-4, which is mailed to all inbound students. If you do not receive your packet, call U.S. Student Division, at the Command and General Staff College at DSN 312-552-7313 or 913-684-7313. Housing office is staffed Mon-Fri 7:30 a.m. - 4;00 p.m. See the Fort Leavenworth Housing website for specific information on student housing.
Single Enlisted Soldiers will be assigned to the Single Soldier Quarters (SSQ) upon arrival. Single and Geo-Bachelor Officers can apply for on-post housing in the Infantry Barracks housing area. Contact Frontier Heritage Communities at 913 651-6300 for information.
