Army Emergency Relief Program (AER) is a private, nonprofit organization incorporated in 1942 by the Secretary of War and the Army Chief of Staff. AER's mission is to provide grants, interest-free loans and educational scholarships to promote readiness and help relieve financial distress of Soldiers and their Families. Any Soldier (active or retired), their dependent family member, or widow(er) can visit the nearest AER office to request assistance. Many Army installations around the world have a conveniently located AER office. If no Army installation nearby, not a problem! Soldiers can visit any military installation to request AER assistance from another military aid society. If you are not within 50 miles of a military installation, the American Red Cross is authorized to provide financial assistance on behalf of AER.
